Demystifying - Expanding and factorising review

Drills

Expanding double brackets and factorising quadratics, including the difference of two squares.

Author note — to cover
  • Fluency — expanding double brackets including coefficients and squared brackets like (x + 4)², answered as single choices between expansions since the engine cannot read a typed expression (4 questions).
  • Factorising — quadratics x² + bx + c with negative constants included, chosen from near-miss bracket pairs that swap or mis-sign the numbers (4 questions).
  • Difference of two squares — factorising x² − 49 and 4x² − 9, with (x − 7)² offered as the trap for anyone squaring instead (4 questions).
