Demystifying - The sine and cosine rules review

Drills

Solving non-right-angled triangles with the sine rule, cosine rule and ½ab sin C.

Author note — to cover (Higher)
  • Fluency — sine rule sides and angles with pairings like 30° opposite 5 and 90° opposite 10, every ratio exact (4 questions).
  • Cosine rule — third sides with included angles of 60° or 120°, such as sides 3 and 5 around 120° giving exactly 7, and one angle recovered from three sides (4 questions).
  • Areas and choice — ½ab sin C with 30° angles for integer areas, and single-choice decisions naming which rule the given facts allow (4 questions).
