Drills
Dividing under a single root, and simplifying quotients with coefficients.
Author note — to cover (Higher)
Higher only. Using root a over root b = root(a/b), simplifying quotients with integer coefficients like 6 root 20 over 2 root 5, and choosing whether to combine under one root first. Fractions whose surd denominator will not cancel move to rationalising-denominators. (N8)
- Fluency — direct questions on dividing surds, limited to this lesson's stated scope (4 questions).
- Application — use the same skill in unfamiliar or contextual questions without introducing a later method (4 questions).
- Check — questions built around the exclusions and likely misconceptions named in the lesson brief (4 questions).
