Demystifying - Equations of proportion review

Drills

Constructing and using equations of direct and inverse proportion, including squares, cubes and roots.

Author note — to cover (Higher)
  • Fluency — finding k from a stated pair and evaluating y = kx or y = k/x at a new value, all values integer or exact decimals (4 questions).
  • Powers — relationships y = kx², y = kx³ and y = k√x with square and cube numbers throughout, solved in both directions (4 questions).
  • Choosing the form — single-choice matching of a description or table to its equation, where y = kx offered for an inverse relationship is the planted error (4 questions).
