Demystifying - The mode

Drills

The most frequent value in a data set, including sets with two modes or none.

Author note — to cover

Find the mode of ungrouped lists: numerical and categorical data, bimodal sets, and sets with no mode when nothing repeats. Include the mode as the only average available for categorical data. Modes from frequency tables and the modal class of grouped data are separate pages. Both tiers. (S4)

  • Fluency — direct questions on the mode, limited to this lesson's stated scope (4 questions).
  • Application — use the same skill in unfamiliar or contextual questions without introducing a later method (4 questions).
  • Check — questions built around the exclusions and likely misconceptions named in the lesson brief (4 questions).
