Drills
Adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals by written column methods, exchanging across zeros included.
Author note — to cover
- Fluency — column addition and subtraction of decimals of different lengths, including exchanging across zeros like 4.03 − 1.276; decimal operands keep every question past the KS2 drill (4 questions).
- Long multiplication — decimal pairs via the integer product, placing the point by counting decimal places and checking against an estimate (4 questions).
- Application — worded money and measure problems with the unit fixed in the prompt and a bare number demanded (money always pounds to two decimal places), ending with a subtraction like 12 − 3.475 that catches unpadded columns (4 questions).
